Twelve angry men essays example

The juror’s professions and backgrounds influenced their decisions to great extent. One of the jurors (number three) is a businessman who is at odds from his own son. Since it is a murder trial of a teenager, juror number three is quite confident that the boy is guilty. His relationship to his son seems to have an influence on his attitude to this case and believes that all teenagers from ghetto neighborhoods are criminals. His relationship to his son makes him to approach the case without objectivity. Juror number seven is a salesman that is interested in watching baseball and wants the other jurors to make up a decision fast so that he can proceed with his own life. Similarly, juror number twelve is an impatient adverting executive whose perception is similar to that of juror number seven. He has no interest in the case.
Juror number one is a foreman and based on his profession one can understand the authoritative role he takes in the deliberations. Juror number eight is an architect. This profession involves design of buildings that requires patience in making decisions. Consequently, juror number eight depicts this qualities by being thoughtful and encourages the other jurors to study the details of the case carefully and not to make rush decisions. Juror number nine’s old age makes him believe that sentencing the young man to death would be a waste of a good life. Juror number five grew up in the slums and knows all about knife fights. Expression of his opinions helps in convincing the other jurors why to make a not guilty verdict. Juror number eleven is an immigrant who has experienced many injustices, which makes him committed to administering justice. Juror number two depends on the group thinking mentality and will easily agree with the majority. Juror number six is a painter and a shrewd man who raises the questions of motive, which helps the group in analyzing the case. Juror number ten racist attitudes make him believe that the Hispanic boy is guilty. Juror number four is a stockbroker who believes in rational discussions and does not base his decisions on emotions.
