Understanding challenges in the third sector

Understanding Challenges in the Third Sector [Supervisor Understanding Challenges in the Third Sector It is a hidden fact, but our society comprises of people with several widely spread disorders. There are children and young adults who are mentally challenged and are not able to develop as a normal citizen. This is something I realized when I became part of a charitable organization which works as third sector and they played a vital role in helping out individuals with such complications. The organization I worked had unique methodology behind their operations; they represented neither as private nor public sector. On the contrary, they are community and voluntary-based organizations, which strive for the betterment of the society. Hence, the third sector became a really interesting model for me to study and I learned how the entity succeed to survive when I worked as a volunteer with them.
The organization I opted for this portfolio is a community organization St. Elizabeth’s, which manages children, youngsters, and adults within its school, college, and residential care home respectively. While becoming part of St. Elizabeth’s I realized that they work to support the needy with their problems. They were supported by charitable works and people like me volunteered there, hence, making it part of the third sector. Moreover, it also positively support the economy by providing employments and working opportunities to individuals like me who want to return something to their society.
St Elizabeth’s is a traditional organization which was established in 1903 and has a history of more than 100 years. I learned that organization first charitable work was done by the Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross of Liege (the Congregation). During my volunteer work I also realized that they were a Roman Catholic religion based congregation, which was founded in 1833. However, over the period of time St Elizabeth’s has evolved and managed superior developments which cater to vulnerable people with disorders.
Every institute operates to fulfill the goals, similarly, I comprehended that St Elizabeth’s also has its organizational goals and they focused towards achieving them. While working there as a volunteer; I noticed that the goal is to share care and compassion with every individual which require it the most. Hence, St Elizabeth’s was treating as much people as possible to overcome their learning disabilities. It plays a strong role as a NGO and has the support from the public sector.
I think that there should be more organizations like St. Elizabeth’s working for the betterment of people with learning disorders. Organizations like these generate positive vibes in the societies and create urge amongst individuals to perform good deeds. If St. Elizabeth’s had not existed, then people like me would have never opted to volunteer for such noble causes.
In the end, I can only highlight that there are several problems arising in our society and organizations like St Elizabeth’s plays a key role in tackling these issues. The different prevailing issues are alarming sign for us all, and our society need to get work hard. Thus, we need institutions like St Elizabeth’s which operate as a voluntary or community organization for noble causes. On the contrary, if an organization operates as private or public sector than profits become the driving force. Which leads to losing focus and the problem remains intact, so third sector organizations are most suitable for these scenarios.
