How, in your understanding, is the functionality and area of application of a translation memory different from that of machine translation? Introduction The three vital broad classifications in the field of linguistic technologies that play a major role in the enhancement of glottalization are translation memory which is shortly recognized as TM, terminology management systems and machine translation MT. The interest of the article lies in exploring translation memory and machine translation. Basic operations of Translation memory and machine translation Translation memory which is usually recognized as TM operates by the process of synchronization between the word given or the words of a sentence given and the language of interest through human translation by finding an equivalent and most suitable word in the language chosen. Translation machine is created based on the result from the records of the previous translation operations. In the due course of time, the database created using the past recordings are utilized to retrieve exact word , thereby the process becomes very convenient with lesser consumption of time and expense. Machine translation is the process of converting a given sentence or sentences in a draft to another language which is chosen. This is perpetrated with the help of computing device which carries out the translation inclusive of the complexity in the selection of vocabulary, abiding by the codes of grammar in providing a grammar free sentence and a careful examination to the prevention of the guest language influence. This technology is capable of translating a huge volume of words in minimal period of time and is highly appreciable according to today’s trend.
; Challenges attached to the translation memory and machine translation; When it comes to translation memory, the strain in the process of retrieving a word is managed well by exploiting the previous recordings and it could be further accelerated by speeding up the process of retrieval, in short words by making the retrieving operation as fast as possible to enable a faster present and future translations. As per the information according to the book “ Usability and internationalization of information technology” by Nuray Aykin (2005) 20 to 30% of a translation of a document or anything which is significantly large is observed to have redundancy which can be exploited for further translations. According to this information, an effort to be put to translate a new project is minimized by 20%. To accelerate the power of leveraging translation machine can be strengthened by the application of well managed language composing.; It has be reminded that language is a complicated aspect to be dealt with as it involves a huge set of rules and complexities to be ensured for a grammatically correct sentence. On the other hand it is a difficult task to condense all these rules to be packed in a software. As far as computing devices are concerned a refined sentence with no grammar error and an appropriate vocabulary has not been achieved yet. Probably a computing device can guaranty a content with amateurish grammar and a closely equivalent word capable enough to provide a closer interpretation.
To overcome these complexities machine translation has limited to thethe translation of sentences which are in the form of question, hint and something very short and crispy. Additional issue of concern is that, machines which are inexpensive and which are not closer to those that in the market are observed to show minimum accuracy.; Nuray Aykin. (2005). p-126. Translators make use of translation memory through links such as HTML HTTP and so on. Tools are attached to the translation memory that the engine maintains a record of the translations that have occurred in the past.
