The same-sex marriage, acceptable or unacceptable?

The love between a man and a woman will be fulfilled when it ends with a wedding with recognition and congratulations from all. What about the gay people, do you think love between them can have resulted in a marriage like ordinary people? Ricky Gervais is a writer once said: “ Same-sex marriage isn’t just a victory for gay people. It’s a victory for all of us. Anything that promotes equality, promotes progress. You can’t take equality too far”. Same-sex marriage is accepted because of the individual’s sense of knowledge and understanding, understanding and empathy for the same sex is also equality. Many countries have accepted homosexuals as ordinary people because they are still ordinary people, born, raised and loved as others. They accept and bless the same-sex marriage. But in fact, there are opinions that do not accept same-sex marriage and arguing that the government should forbid same-sex marriage.

First of all, a part of opinion suggests that the same-sex marriage is the opposite of social norms, destroying the standard of traditional family. The basic functions of traditional families are often referred to as a reproductive function, economic function, socialization function – children’s education, etc. In these functions, reproductive function is considered the most important, so many believe that the only purpose of marriage is to give birth to a child. According to Daniel Silliman’s report (2015) “ Rather, it is a common sense reflection of the fact that (homosexual) relationships do not result in the birth of children, or establish households where a child will be raised by its birth mother and father”, warned that allowing same-sex couples to marry would lead to the breakdown of traditional families. Others argue that accepting same-sex marriage risks destroying a generation. They do not condemn, do not discriminate against those who are really lesbian, are gay, yet very sympathetic and respectful. But now many young people are afraid that they are lesbian, gay. Young people always want to express themselves as human beings of the time, if young people who are wondering about sex will follow the movement like that, then our society will be like. While the traditional opinion that marriage between two men or two women is against tradition, even “ pervert,” most of the comments are favored, the same-sex marriage not only provides a natural look to homosexuality but also show respect for the fundamental human right to freedom of the pursuit of happiness.

Secondly, about the issue of spirituality and religion, many people argue that homosexual marriage is a threat to the sanctity of marriage. According to Steven Waldman post’s (2003) “ A new poll from the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life found, not surprisingly, that opposition to gay marriage and homosexuality is highest among the most religious.” If those who use the “ sanctity” argument were genuinely concerned about the institution of marriage they’d focus their efforts on helping those straight married couples who are at risk of divorcing. If marriage was so “ sacred” they’d also be pursuing the outlawing of heterosexual divorce. They do neither of these things. The only married straight couples impacted by the legalization of gay marriage are those in which one of the parties is a closet-case gay person who dreams of coming out and marrying someone of the same sex. Although every individual, every faith has its own beliefs, the religion is not entirely against homosexual marriage, a gay marriage can still hold the divine as a normal marriage when it comes from true love and responsibility for the marriage.

Additionally, the same-sex marriage is a violation of the rights of the child. In the post of David Van Gen (2011) “ Marriage is fundamentally about the needs of children”, writes David Blankenhorn, a supporter of gay rights in the US who nevertheless draws the line at same-sex marriage. “ Redefining marriage to include gay and lesbian couples would eliminate entirely in law, and weaken still further in culture, the basic idea of a mother and a father for every child”. Marriage is fundamentally about the needs of children, it means children need to have “ real parents” to grow up normally but in the same-sex marriage the child has to miss a father or mother, “ Take Senator Penny Wong for example – as van Onselen did. She is an effective politician, but she can never be a Dad to a little boy. She and her female partner tell us they have created a baby who will have no father, only a mother and another woman. Their assertion is that a Dad simply does not matter to a child.” – David Van Gen post’s (2011). Besides that, children in same-sex marriages may feel embarrassed and guilty because their parents are homosexuals, which in turn affects a significant portion of their personal development and their psychology. Although there are some negative points that affect the rights of children, on the other hand, children raised by gay parents still have more eminent emotion, tolerance, and altruism. That proves that a child born to be raised by a “ perfect” parent to develop well is not entirely right. The article by Anne Davies (2017) showed the Australian Institute of Family Studies’ 2013 review of the Australian and international research, which showed there was no evidence of harm. “ The findings of these reviews reflect a broader consensus within the fields of family studies and psychology. It is family processes – parenting quality, parental well-being, the quality of and satisfaction with relationships within the family) – rather than family structures that make a more meaningful difference to children’s well-being and positive development”.

Inclusion, nowadays, as the world becomes more civilized, more and more people’s thoughts and perceptions grow from that, adopting homosexuals and accepting them to have a life become easier. But there are still opinions and views that still do not accept the same-sex marriage, because of the influence of regional culture, religion, social prejudice, or sometimes their knowledge of homosexuality people is unknown. No one can choose for themselves the circumstances of their birth, and no one can determine their own sex. People can only be happy to be themselves and can choose their own loved ones based on their emotions. Take responsibility and try harder to prove that the same-sex marriage can still have perfect as normal families.
