1. What was the main point of the article? (2 sentences maximum) The article dealt mainly with the way diversity can be a messy issue in most cases and how one has to wear safety goggles when dealing with it. In order to immerse in issues of diversity, one needs special training and insight.
2. Did the article help you understand the topic more fully? Why/Why not? (2 sentences maximum) Yes, the article helped me understand the topic from a new perspective. It outlined the issue lucidly with apt examples.
3. This article will help me at AUD because (3-5 sentences) it has helped me reflect on the concept of diversity. As a journalist, one will have to deal with various delicate issues that involve differences based on race, gender and color. If one has a balanced view on what it means to be discriminated or marginalized, it will reflect on the insightful work s/he is required to do as a journalist. It is useful to know about one’s own identity and the layers of discrimination and privilege attendant to it. This will prove helpful when negotiating diversity in reporting issues.
