Working with a group of people in order to fulfill a particular task is not as easy as working individually on a school project. The only problem a person has to deal with in an individual project is one’s self. It is an entirely different story when more than one person is involved in creating just one project. Even though each member shares the same goal, their individual differences will always be the cause of misunderstanding, worse, the success of the project itself. Veronica is put in a difficult situation in this case. Her dreams of someday be recognized as one of the best solar-powered car designers in the future may be shattered for she may no longer be given the chance to showcase her knowledge and skills in designing renewable powered cars. Furthermore, should she allow things to fall apart, she may no longer be interested in working and interacting with groups of people in the future.
Interpersonal relationship becomes a vital aspect in this situation that Veronica is in. Having a strong interpersonal skill would know that the first thing a person would do in this situation is to admit to his own fault and shortcomings. It was indeed not right for Veronica not to tell the members of the group when she had noticed that the overall plan for the car they were designing was not well thought out. The problem with George’s tinkering is definitely not the only issue here. If I were Veronica, I would ask everyone for a meeting and sort out our differences first before pushing through with the project by knowing each other’s individual differences, our weaknesses and strengths. It is very important in a team to talk about what each one could do and could not do. Assigning each member with specific tasks according to what they are good at would make the process of achieving goals go smoothly. Since I, assuming I was Veronica, was the first one to notice George’s tinkering alters the design every time, I should have immediately talked to him and solved the problem before it got bigger.
In situations where time is running out and the quality of the output is at stake, it is necessary that each member of the team know how they should deal with each other. Working out each other’s differences would be easy if they talk to each other and set each one’s role in the project.
