Abortion is an act that is considered acceptable in the present day. However, there are many varying views about it. Some people support it whereas others think of it as an act that is unethical and should be banned. In some societies, abortion is illegal but permitted in certain situations.
Apart from any emotional reasons, abortion is legal or permissible in cases where the mother’s health is at risk, and the birth could prove fatal to her or her child. In other cases, if there are serious medical conditions associated such as genetic disease, mental defects or a disease that the mother has, which can be passed on to the child, then abortion can be allowed. Abortion is also carried out due to certain government policies. This is done to restrict the number of children in a family, or to regulate the population growth. (Karakoulaki, 2014)
There are many reasons that abortion should not be allowed under any circumstances. The child is a gift of God who has come into the world by the will of the parents and even if he hasn’t been planned, then the child still is a life and deserves to come into this world. Taking away a life is just equivalent to committing murder. Moreover, aborting a child out of poverty or difficult living conditions is simply unethical and unjust. Also, those women who go for abortion can suffer from long-term medical effects of abortion, and some may even lose their fertility or ability to have children later on. Even if a child is conceived without planning, it should not be aborted. Rather, the child can be later put up for abortion because there are many childless couples in the country that would want a child badly but cannot have one. (Sutherland, 2013)
In my opinion, abortion should be made illegal, and I am against it because it is unethical and equal to murder. Those who abort children because they think that children are a burden are wrong in doing so. Nations should take appropriate steps to prevent unnecessary abortions and help parents make sensible decisions for giving birth to and rearing children.
