The word sociology refers to the study of society. Sometimes, sociology refers to a social science that incorporates various scientific methods of investigating people’s behavior. Sociology in broader perspective will refer to the study of humans’ social activity. This is often done with an aim of understanding the social welfare.
To this end therefore, we ask ourselves the most important question, why sociology? In essence, sociology encompasses all areas of society’s life. As such, it is a very broad discipline. in this regard therefore, we answer our question above by looking at its various components, such as its role in assessing the social stratification in the society, social mobility, social classes, religion, securalization law and at times deviance.
Like seen here above, sociology encompasses the various aspects of a society’s life and there becomes important in understanding the said society. We therefore find the usefulness of sociology in understanding the various social classes in the society. Through sociology we are able to understand that the social classes are due to effects of social stratification based on the income distribution of the people.
Sociology then becomes an important tool in understanding the social structure of the society. The various aspects of a society, like social mobility and the factors that lead to social mobility in a society are understood.
It is generally understood that the human activities are built within social structure and in other times in individual agency. As a result of this, sociology helps us to understand other areas of human life such as the health, the internet military as well as other penal institution. In doing this sociology also enables us understand the role of the social activity in scientific knowledge development.
From the above discussion therefore, we conclusively say that sociology as a discipline is of great importance to the understanding and growth of any society. Its importance is evident from the analysis of the various aspects that define it as a discipline.
