Chapter 3 6. What part does education of a mother play in promoting health of a child? There is a strong link between theeducation of the mother and the health of her child. The first link is the intergenerational link between the health of the parent and the children. An educated parent is likely to provide the child with better healthcare compared to uneducated mothers. Education helps the mothers prevent illnesses. An educated mother will provide a nutritious diet for the child thus good health (Skolnik 50).
12. Why did Guinea worm disease remain so prevalent for so long?
The reasons why the disease was prevalent was attributed to the lack of coordination between major partners dedicated to eradication of the ailment. Lack of accurate data also caused the disease to be prevalent over a long time. The lack of political influence was also another cause (Skolnik 65).

4. How do intellectual property law affect the development and pricing of medicine?
Intellectual property law affects health care negatively; intellectual property law hinders provision of affordable health care due to high pricing of medicine. The laws also discourage development of generic medication, which should be cheaper than the original (Skolnik 75).
6. What is the most important ethical concerns that arise when research is conducted with people in developing countries?
The most important issues that may arise when research is conducted in developing countries include the standards of care, after trial benefits for the individuals and community and the care given to the participants after the study not related to the study (Skolnik 80).
8. What principles might be used to justify a decision about how to allocate scarce resources for health care?
Scare resources allocated to health care can be justified using one or more principles. One of the principles is health maximization, equality, prioritizing the most affected and personal responsibility. These principles can be combined or used individually to justify resource allocation (Skolnik 82).
