Company was purchased by GUS (Shipping Corporation) in 1955, it went through global extension in 1970’s and before that it went for IPO (Initial public offering) of the shares. In 1990’s company got lesser control on the licensing and distribution channels and they went into extensive brand line extension decisions which had a negative impact on the company’s performance , quality focused was lost and company decided to change its positioning and licensing strategy along with the management.
