Greek revival architecture became popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Many government buildings were built after the Greek designs. Citizens liked the design and adopted it in their houses; many houses were built following the designs of the Greek revival. The Greek revival showed strength, unity and independence in the massive columns that supported the structure of the buildings and the temple like appearance of the structures. This was the Americans way of showing their nationalism over the past two hundred years. Today, many of those houses are still occupied and many of the government buildings are still being used, or have been declared a national historical building. The Greek revival designs still remain popular with modifications.
