On the website, http://www. historyplace. com/speeches/previous. htm there are many interesting articles; however, the one that stuck out for me was given by George W. Bush. He is responding to the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center September 11th 2001. President Bush’s speech was primarily opinion because he was describing how he felt, although some facts were stated about the attack. President Bush stated in his speech, “ On September 11th, enemies of freedom committed an act of war against our country.
Americans have known wars, but for the past 136 years they have been wars on foreign soil, except for one Sunday in 1941. Americans have known the causalities of war, but not at the center of a great city on a peaceful morning. ” Later in his speech he also states…” Americans are asking who attacked our country. The evidence we have gathered all points to a collection of loosely affiliated terrorist organizations known as al-Quida. ”
These statements are facts because they are true dates and events that happened. Although the President stated several facts in his speech the majority of his speech was his opinion of what was to come and an explanation of how he felt about the terrorist and what he felt should happen to them. He states “ they want to overthrow existing governments in many Muslim Countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordon. They want to drive Israel out of the Middle East.
They want to drive Christians and Jews out of vast regions of Asia and Africa. ” This is President Bush’s opinion of what the Terrorist want. President Bush also stated, “ This is not, however, just America’s fight. This is the worlds fight, and what is at stake is not just America’s freedom. This is the worlds fight. This is civilizations fight. This is the fight of all who believe in progress and pluralism, tolerance and freedom. ” This is the president’s feelings on what was to come.
