Importance of Effective Communication Before going to discuss the importance of effective communication between County Commissioners and/or Council Members and criminal justice agencies, let us get a better understanding of what effective communication actually is. An effective communication is one, which is result-oriented and productive for all parties involved in the process of communication. Level of understanding between the individuals is the key towards effective communication. Less understanding results into unproductive communication whereas good understanding and patience result into effective and result-oriented communication.
Effective communication between County Commissioners and/or City Council Members and criminal justice agencies is very necessary for the achievement of goals and objectives. Effective communication between criminal justice agencies is a key towards success in maintaining the law and order situation in the country. Individuals related to such agencies must be able to communicate effectively with each other because ineffective communication, bad attitude, and misunderstandings lead towards confusions and many other problems. It is very important for the individuals to possess excellent communication skills in order to have better and effective working relationships because poor communication skills put adverse effects not only on the productivity of the agencies but also on the relationships between different government agencies. “ Communication is a two way process, so it is necessary to be a good listener and not just a good talker” (Dhavale, 2011).
Talking from agencies’ perspective, employees need to express willingness to exchange information with each other. Such communication processes are not effective where employees do not show agreeability and conformity to each other. All people involved in workplace communication need to participate actively in the process of communication in order to make the communication process effective and result-oriented. Meverson (2005) affirms, “ Poor workplace communication skills will have negative effects on your business relationships and may result in decreased productivity”. Some of the main benefits of effective communication for county commissioners and criminal justice agencies include reduction in the incidents of misunderstandings, reduction of communication errors, improvement in the problem-solving mechanisms, and improved and well-timed operations.
Time is one of the most important features of effective communication. It is very important to consider the importance of time when it comes to effective office communication. Delayed responses make communication process ineffective and create many problems, such as, delayed operational timings and difficulty in taking quick decisions. Effective communication also requires people involved in the process of communication to give proper and timely feedback to each other. Feedback plays an important role in making the communication process effective. It not only encourages the sender of the message but also helps the sender know whether he/she is delivering correct information or not.
County commissioners and criminal justice agencies work in proper collaboration with each other to ensure peace and stability. When there will be lack of effective communication between them, the effect will be directly on the law and order situation of the city. Therefore, effective communication is of critical importance between all government agencies in order to be able to achieve all goals and objectives regarding different matters.
