North Carolina students have the opportunity to benefit from standards that were developed using the most effective academic standards from across the country and around the world. I think the three most critical standards for North Carolina for Reading is to be able to retell familiar stories with prompting and support, including key details. ) Be able to identify the setting of the story, all characters, and the major events of the story. I think these are the most critical standards for reading because knowing these standards will intern tell us if the students are able to comprehend. If they are able to comprehend and understand what is being read to them they will be able to answer the questions that the teachers ask them, after reading the story.
