”—C. S. LewisBeing raised in a very strict and academic family, I am pressured on a daily basis to achieve my best when it comes to education. My parents sent me to a private school from a very young age; and on top of that they even hired a private home-school teacher.

He would always show up at our house at exactly 1600 with his light brown brief case and his leather patched tweed blazer. He reminded me of a professor from some top notch university like Oxford or Cambridge. My parents hired him to teach me seven days a week non-stop. Every penny my parents spend on my education was part of the long process that would lead to the ultimate goal: College! College has always been a definite destiny for me. But who knew that by the time I was 18, I would be faced with the high rising prices. Most people consider college the way out of poverty and the door towards a better future.

However, the ever rising tuition makes it nearly impossible for some to even consider pursuing college. When it comes to the issue of higher education, we have all heard the on-going argument whether college is actually worth the money we put in. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, it shows that back in 2001, college fees for 4-year institutions would cost about $12, 922. In 2013, tuition fees have increased to a staggering amount of $22, 000. (College Backlash) It seems like college is becoming more and more unaffordable each year. Most people might even think that entering college is almost becoming pointless because its high prices make it impossible for some.

It goes without saying that higher education is the backbone for individual success and is beneficial for the competitiveness of a country on international levels. But the rise in tuition fees has made it almost unaffordable. If…
