Child Centred Environment Child centred environments are environments that are fully focused on the child. They may consist of child size furnishings (Mooney, 2006), brightly coloured walls and nicely hung children’s paintings. All these factors contribute to a child’s learning environment. They promote positive interactions thus unknowingly allowing the child to learn languages and other essential life skills. UNICEF (2001) declares that child centred approach identifies that the child’s rights and needs are emphasised for development. The environment also includes the adults that are within it. Hayes (2010) states that the practitioner needs to be able to deal with the child on many different levels, such as social, emotional, physical and sympathetic manner. “ Nature wants children to be children before they are men” this famous quote from philosopher J. J. Rouseau is a focal for what a child centred environment is. This quote indicates to us that we need to allow children be children and not make them grow up to quickly.
