Anthony BarbarisiMs. RupalEnglish III30 January 2018Overpopulation, what is it? Many people have heard about overpopulation and have forgotten that it was a problem today. No one realizes that it’s only getting worse with time but people don’t seem to care. The solutions to overpopulation seemed to be practices nowhere because they are to “ harsh” but if we don’t do something now their will be no earth to overpopulate. DefinitionOverpopulation is an undesirable condition where the number of existing human population exceeds the carrying capacity of Earth.
The topic is said to be a problem by many professionals because of the effects that it has on the Earth and the people who live on it. According to renewableresourcescoalition. org it can cause “ Lack of Water” , “ Lower life expectancy”, and can ultimately lead to “ extinction”. CausesAccording to. overpopulation.
org some of the causes are “ Reduced death rates but higher birth rates”, “ better medical resources”, and “ Lack of education”. Reduced death rates are majorly causes by us advancing technology, with better technology comes better understanding of things like disease that kill humans and that leads to cures. According to . cdc. gov back in 2016 the death rates from disease were 823. 7 deaths per 100, 000 population and the Life expectancy was 78.
8 years old but back in the 1900’s their were more deaths and not even half the life expectancy rate. We have advanced our technology so far that we can have an estimated guess at what the flu will mutate into and vaccinate the people to help prevent it. Back in the before these advances people would die and it almost seemed like for no reason because they had no clue what they were up against, and even if they did they didn’t have the right medicine to stop it. Lack of education is a big one because if we don’t learn the effects from overpopulationWe won’t care and it will drive us to extinction. People in poverty might not have the necessary birth control tools to stop their overpopulation and even if they did they aren’t educated enough to put them to good use. EffectsSome of the effects according to renewableresourcescoalition.
org are “ Lack of water”, “ Faster climate change”, and if it keeps going the way it does “ extinction”. The reason lack of water is so important is because we need it to survive and according to positive. news “ Overpopulation creates greater demand on the world’s freshwater supplies. As only roughly 1% of the world’s water is fresh and accessible, this creates a major issue.” And it it slowly going down “ Some estimates state that human demand for fresh water will stand at approximately 70% of what is available on the planet by 2025. This will place those living in impoverished areas that already have limited access to such water at great risk.
” Another effect is faster climate change. Overpopulation directly affects climate change. It directly affects it because the more people we have the more resources we use and the more resources we use creates more pollution, particularly larger nations play a bigger role, like China and India, continue to develop their industrial capacities. They now rank as two of the three largest contributors to emissions in the world, alongside the United States. And it’s not just normal people who believe this 97% of the scientific community agrees that human activities are changing global temperatures. SolutionsSome of the solutions according to renewableresourcescoalition. org are “ better sex education”, “ Access to Contraceptives”, and “ Changes in Policy”. Lack sex education is the main source of overpopulation in many cases.
If people don’t know what it is and how to prevent it things will never get better. That is why the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is calling for improvements to be made. According to overpopulation. org “ Better education will help people understand more about the potential consequences of having sex as they relate to child birth”. Access to Contraceptives or “ birth control” will go together with better sex education. After all, without it people cannot put what they have learned into practice. According torenewableresourcescoalition.
org “ The World Health Organization (WHO) states that 225 million women who are living in the developing countries would prefer to postpone giving birth but are not using any form of contraception. Many organizations, such as the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), also support improving access to contraceptives. Changes in Policy is also a big solution.
According to biocab. org “ Many nations offer rewards, whether in the form of financial incentives or increased benefits, to those who have more children. This may lead to some couples having more children than they otherwise would if they needed to worry about the financial consequences.” Overpopulation is a big deal and need to be taken more serious. If we continue to not spread the word and help others understand what it is doing to use and the Earth their will be no earth to protect anymore.
