To be an effective leader, a person needs to be a decision maker, have great communication skills, great values and able to persuade others.
Being a leader requires fast thinking and decision making. In stressed environments, quick and accurate decisions are often needed. The more speed and reliability of decisions made, the more effective the leader.
Leadership requires a person to have enhanced communication skills in both spoken nd written applications. Communication is the primary source people use to express expectations of others there for with ineffective communication the leader can not influence others.
An effective leader will master the art of speaking, and speak with someone and not at them. Persuasion is a rare talent an effective leader must possess. People will do much more if they feel they want to do the task. Someone who can make people do things that they normally would not, and keeping them happy about it, is definitely an effective leader.
Leadership implies values. A leader must have values that are life giving to society.
This will also implies values that are embedded in respect of others. Respect means also that one can deal with diversity which is a critical need for a leader in todays world. With all of the leaders of the world today, many of them do not have the essentials of an effective one. Making decisions that are timely and correct, communicating personally, great values and the persuasion of others, are the essentials needed. An effective leader understands he will pull a group of people much easier than he will push one.
